Margaret Eleanor Atwood, CC, O.Ont, FRSC (November 18, 1939) is a Canadian poet, novelist, literary critic, essayist, and environmental activist. One of the most talented women writing today, she is also Canada’s foremost writer. Her novels and poetry are full of conflicts—most of them politically charged—between nature and culture, Canada and the United States, animals and humans, men and women. Some of her better known work includes: The Handmaid’s Tale, Surfacing, Life Before Man, Power Politics, Bluebeard’s Egg, Bodily Harms and, her latest, The Year of the Flood.
