German Green Industries Say Can Fill Nuclear Gaps

Power sectors based on coal, gas and renewables have so far been shy to present their merits, because they do not want to appear as winners of the negative publicity for nuclear that has been caused by the Japanese disaster, observers say. The standard argument against renewables is their volatile production levels. BEE said an expansion could cure that problem, but could not happen as long as Germany is oversupplied with thermal capacity.

U.S. Wind Power Posts Slowest Quarter Since 2007

China and Europe already have mandates for renewable power which AWEA said will help lead to $35 billion in investment in 2010, or four times the amount that has been invested in the United States. “U.S. wind energy can again lead the world,” said Denise Bode, AWEA’s chief executive. “But if federal policymakers do not act quickly to provide investment certainty… the U.S. wind industry will stall out.”
