US Supreme Court in historic rulings on gay marriage

The US Supreme Court has struck down a law denying federal benefits to gay couples and cleared the way for same-sex marriage in California. The justices said that the Defense of Marriage Act, known as Doma, discriminated against same-sex couples. They declined to rule on California’s prohibition of gay marriage, known as Proposition 8, in effect allowing such unions to resume in the state. Continue reading

Obama pledges to end DOMA and Don’t Ask Don’t Tell

This is the man I voted for. He’s faced with obstacles most of us won’t see in a lifetime, saddled with a congress that can’t get away from lobbyists and opinion polls, and a spiteful, hateful, vengeful opposition party that hasn’t got an alternative other than to say no to everything. Given time, let’s see what he can do…I don’t agree with everything he’s done, or is doing, especially with the wars, but mostly I feel he’s on the right track. Continue reading
